Dr. Sam Collins: Hi. This is Dr. Sam Collins for the American Acupuncture Council with a webinar series on coding and billing and it’s my pleasure to be with you today. I’m the director of our insurance network at the American Acupuncture Council that does all the coding and billing issues for seminars as well as for the malpractice insurance.

Today’s program is going to be understanding how do we bill or understand for counseling. There’s a lot of angst in the profession as to whether it’s something we can code for or how do we code it and so, I want to make sure that there’s a reasonable understanding for when is it appropriate to bill and code for it, when it is included as part of the service.

Before we really get into what the coding is, we have to really make an understanding of what counseling is. We want to take some time to really get an understanding of what type of coding we need to use, but let’s first really talk about what the commitment is of our company to you. Our goal and commitment is to strengthen and grow the acupuncture profession by providing education, tools, and support that continually improve the productivity, profitability, and wellbeing of the alternative health community as a whole, but obviously, for acupuncture. For you, acupuncturists often, you’re not aware or not having a good understanding of what services you can code for. Today, let’s really tackle counseling and what it really means.

Acupuncture Malpractice Insurance American Acupuncture Council – Dr. Bruno Animal Acupuncture

The following is an actual transcript of the American Acupuncture Council Live Event with Marilyn Allen and Dr. Gene Bruno. Dr. Bruno: Here is the big deal, because of the results, and I presented these results at [Ucluelet 00:00:09] Medical School seminar that we had in 1973, fall of ’73. The results on animals were so amazing that it can help legislators understand that this was not hypnosis or voodoo. Okay, so if it works on a horse and a … well, it works on a human, okay. That helped get the law passed in a lot of places because we had the data. In fact, how would you hypnotize a horse and say you don’t have emphysema anymore? There’s no placebo factor, that is it. Yeah, there’s no placebo involved.

Marilyn Allen: Good day, everyone. I want to wish you a happy spring and welcome to our webinar presented by the American Acupuncture Council. Today, we’re very fortunate to have someone who has been involved in acupuncture since actually, it was before licensing in almost any state. He was a co-founder of NISA in Boston as well as many other things.

One of the things that he did that we’re going to talk about today is animal acupuncture. He actually brought it to this country. He’s going to share with us a history from China, and what I want to make you please understand is if you want to do animal acupuncture or acupuncture on animals, whether they be small or large, you need to be sure of what the regulations are in your own individual state. You want to check with the board. You want to know what you have to do in order to be legal and to be covered on malpractice insurance.
