Acupuncture and Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Acupuncture and Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Can acupuncture provide benefits for patients diagnosed with the hearing disorder, sensorineural hearing loss?

Sensorineural hearing loss causes an increase in the pure tone audiometry of patients, leading to a decrease in word recognition scores.

A case report of a 61-year-old male patient presented to an acupuncture clinic complaining of significant hearing deficit in his left ear, which had persisted for 1 year.

After completing 21 acupuncture sessions, the word recognition score in his left ear advanced from a 64 to 94, and at a two-month follow-up showed no recurrence of hearing loss.

This case report’s finding show acupuncture serving as a promising treatment choice for improving word recognition scores in individuals suffering from hearing loss.
